(born Joseph Charles Nemec IV on November 5, 1971) is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter whose passion for acting ignited after watching the film

at the age of 13, where his father worked as the art director. With both parents involved in the arts, Nemec felt naturally drawn to acting, stating that it "seemed the right thing to do." He began his training at the Centre Stage LA theater company, where his talent quickly led him to secure an agent and land several commercial roles, including one for Suzuki. His first television appearance came with a guest spot on the show

, where he formed a lasting friendship with actor Ernie Reyes Jr.

Nemec’s breakout role came in 1988 with his performance in

Tucker: The Man and His Dream

. He soon earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Steven Stayner in the NBC miniseries

I Know My First Name Is Steven

. His career continued to rise with his role as the title character in the hit series

Parker Lewis Can't Lose

(1990–1993). In the same year, he shared the screen with legends Jack Palance, Peter Boyle, and Charlton Heston in the feature film

. Nemec later portrayed

in the 1993 TV adaptation of Stephen King's

and took on notable roles in films such as

Goodbye, America

and TV movies like

My Brother's Keeper

Throughout his career, Nemec has appeared on numerous TV shows, including

Tales from the Crypt

Ghost Whisperer

. He has portrayed infamous figures, such as serial killers

, and starred in original Sci-Fi Channel films like

Lake Placid vs. Anaconda

. He has also worked on original Lifetime movies.

In addition to his acting career, Nemec explored hip-hop in the 1990s, recording an album with his group

Starship of Foolz

, developed by Matt Robinson and Dedra Tate, and produced by Balthazar Getty. He also ventured into comic production, collaborating with Paul Mooney on a series where Mooney played the president of the United States. He made a cameo in the music video for "Beer for My Horses" by Toby Keith and Willie Nelson.

From 2002 to 2004, Nemec joined the cast of

, temporarily replacing Michael Shanks’ character, Daniel Jackson.

In January 2013, Nemec suffered a life-threatening accident while filming

in Belize. A boating collision left the entire right side of his body shattered, requiring multiple surgeries and blood transfusions. Despite the accident, Nemec's resilience has continued to fuel his career in film and television, showcasing his passion and dedication to his craft.
